Meet the family

Ornella has a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Turin. She has taught English and Italian since 1978: she taught in scuole medie and licei in Turin for 3 years and has lived in England since 1981 with her English husband, Tony.  She has a TEFL certificate to teach English as a Foreign Language and in addition the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Spoken English Advanced Certificate and the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English. She is recognised as a qualified teacher in the UK.

For 29 years she was at Our Lady's Convent School, Loughborough, a private Catholic school where she taught Italian and Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Careers Education. She was a Head of House and organised trips to Italy and school exchanges with schools in Turin. She has also taught English as a Foreign Language and Italian to adults at Loughborough College.

Tony has a degree in Science and Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and an Master of Business Administration with Distinction. He was a college principal for many years and is a qualified teacher of Mathematics and Physics. He is an ex junior chess champion. He is interested in history, politics, society and current affairs.

Their son James is aged 26. He has been teaching English as a Foreign Language in England and Italy since 2010, much of the time to undergraduate and postgraduate university students. He got his main qualification as an English teacher from Leicester University. He has taught in Vietnam, Thailand and China. He has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. The other members of the family are Sonny and Fluffy, two Shih-Tzu dogs. They live together in a large house built in 1886 in a quiet central position in Loughborough, a town near Nottingham. Loughborough has one of the top ten universities in the UK and attracts students from all over the world.
